NIKOLAUS EUWER

A Living Place

Your secret
face, that hidden thought-
stream whirling and tumbling over
ground, on
feeling.

The mastery,
power,
control and
race
for meaning, safety,
spiritual
grace!

What is hidden and
what
is shown?

In what
parts,
shallow and
shining,
is your true
heart
known?

Cast ashore by the
deep sea
tempests; shattered
woodbeam sails
of feeling, language,
truth and
zeal.

What solemn struggle
do you
drag
with
stormy
breath and
heaving
heart,
that spins and
burns
in your
eyes so
hurt?

I’ve
found you in a calm
and
quiet
harbor; we rest amongst
the skies and
sunbeams.

No man is an
island,
nothing is what it
seems;
the Ocean’s tears, they ebb
and
flow.

The
watery realm
it
teems and
bursts
with roaring
life and
bounding swells.

Your hidden
face and
retreating
eyes; speak!
and
live in safety,
peace!
